Quality mom time

Since last Saturday, Daniel has been at a camp with middle schoolers (yikes!), so Jacob and I have been staying with Daniel's dad (known to Jacob as Didi). Daniel's mom has been at the same camp since Sunday, so there's been some serious male bonding in the evening for these two guys as seen below.

But, during the days it's all Jacob and mom time! The weather has been pretty mild, so we've been spending a lot of time outdoors taking walks, swinging, and just looking at nature. For some reason, this little guy insists on trying to stand on things despite barely being able to hold his own head vertical.

Instead of letting him spend too much time trying to stand in a swing, I've been laying him on the bed, floor, couch, lap, anywhere so he can furiously kick his legs and happily flail around. (Don't worry, I don't let him flail on an elevated surface when I'm not around....;) )

He's growing bigger and more alert by the day....and though it's barely visible in pictures, he's working on a mean blond mullet. Much love!!

Return to the Big Screen

Every summer has a blockbuster, and this might be the one of 2008.

This video is dedicated to Ashley, the best wife and mother a family could ask for.

Approaching 6 weeks

Yesterday, we attempted to have our friend Vicki take some family shots at a nearby lake. Key word in that sentence would be "attempted"! Jacob was so adorable, but so not into the idea of smiling, cooing, or generally being the typical morning-version of himself. Regardess, there are aways some cute shots when enough pictures are taken and the person behind the lens has a great eye!

Here's the story of how the morning progression via pictures:
Jacob not thrilled, but okay.

Now, he's pushing things away and getting grumpy- even rejecting the daddy kisses!
(Just look at the size of that melon- this kid's got one big ole brain!)
And now he's just had it. All hope was lost.

At this point, we just appeased him with a pinky while finishing off the film.
Dont' worry about this kiddo though because just as the last picture was taken, he returned to the happy, smiling baby once again. It's as though he sensed that he was no longer being documented....he's too smart already.

One Month!

I know it may seem like we're not blogging as fast as you'd like, but to be quite honest, everything is coming at us fast. Not only is Jacob already an older cousin, but he has started to outgrow the same clothes that once smothered him.

Little Jacob was born at 6lbs 130z, then lost weight in the first four days to 6lbs 4oz, and yesterday tipped the scale at 9 POUNDS 1.5 OUNCES. He's huge. I think I'm going to take him into an audition to play Bruce Banner as a child in the upcoming HULK movie. You wouldn't like Jacob when he's angry. Speaking of him being angry, yesterday at the doctor's office he got a Hep-B shot in the thigh. He looked at me with piercing eyes that seemed to say, "I thought we were friends, how could you do that to me?" He calmed down once we left the doctor's office and he felt the threat of danger was behind him.
Apparently, his anger towards me diffused by today. After given the go-ahead from the doctor, we tried to bottle feed young Jacob. We have heard the horror stories of babies who just cry and cry until they get back in their mother's arms. Jacob put up no such fight. As soon as I showed him the bottle, he opened his mouth, put his hands on either side of it, and started chugging as if being dared to. I was so proud. Seriously, though, it was exciting to be able to feed him. I never realized how left out I felt until I was included. So, now Ashley could (in theory) leave for more than two hours at a time. Our little boy is growing up so fast.
Ok, I'll stop babbling. Here's what you're here to see.
We took Jacob to his first Cardinals mini-camp. He had a good time.

Welcome Colby!

At a wopping 3 weeks 5 days old, Jacob is officially no longer the youngest in the family. His cousin, Colby John, was born at 12:15 pm in Raleigh (NC) to Daniel's sister Traeci and husband Mark, making 15-month old Samuel a big brother. Fortunately, everyone is healthy and happy. We can't wait to meet Colby when we come to NC in June!

On this front, it appears that Jacob has a taken a new interest: eating daniel's nose and licking his cheek. It's bizzare but admittedly hilarious, as Jacob will literally inch his way up Daniel's chest like a little caterpillar just to get some of the "face" action. Silly kid.

Last Monday, we made a trek to see the pediatrician due to a nasty little cold Jacob somehow got(poor kiddo), and while there we found out that Jacob had gained about 1 1/2 lbs. since birth. That was rather exciting and reassuring! Now that he's almost completely over his congestion issue, he's getting into more of a wake/eat/sleep rhythm and it's looking like Jacob is a morning person! However, I've failed to grab the camera in the morning...so, for today it looks like I've got some shots of him sleeping to share:)
